Chicago Announces Celebration Of 40th Anniversary Of House Music

Four decades earlier, a new style of music was emerging in Chicago. It was made for dance floors, so it is not surprising that it was played at clubs all over the city.

This also included the Warehouse, a space after which house music, the nascent genre, was eventually named.

Celebration

Forty years later, house music has now transitioned into a global phenomenon that you can hear at massive music festivals and underground clubs.

In fact, you can also hear it on stadium speakers, as seen in Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour in 2023. This summer, the hometown of the genre will celebrate the anniversary of the genre.

There will be an official event series held in Chicago called House Music 40 to celebrate the music and its global impact.

The new run of parades and parties will kick off from May 29th. The first will happen at the Daley Plaza in Chicago. This free daytime party will feature sets from hometown heroes DJ Heather and Derrick Carter.

A mainstay of the Chicago scene, Mother Diva, will host the event, who is the self-proclaimed ‘Madam Ambassador of House’.

The events

It is a lunch break party that will start at 12 p.m. and ARC Music Festival will co-sponsor it. Launched in 2021, it is a platform for celebrating Chicago house, along with all the genre’s varieties that were introduced.

John Curley, co-founder of ARC, said that he had been raised in Chicago on house music.

He said that this global movement gave them a chance to show their appreciation and love for a lot of original innovators and pioneers.

He stated that House Music 40 was an opportunity for the fans to give back to the DJs that had given so much.

He went on to say that it was impossible to thank someone fully for the music genre. However, he added that every action of ARC was aimed at doing so.

The co-founder said that ARC was a living monument created to honor house music. There are additional anniversary events that have also been scheduled.

These includes the Chicago House Music Conference, the Chicago House Music Festival and the Inaugural House Music Parade and Festival.

These will be held on May 31st, June 2nd and August 31st, respectively. There will also be other celebrations throughout the city.

House Music 40

The aim of House Music 40 is to create awareness of the contributions made to the global dance scene by Chicago house artists.

The non-profit also works on raising money for Chicago house artists who are battling with health issues.

ARC Music Festival will be held at the Union Park in Chicago on August 30th. There are some prominent names in the lineup.

These include Marshall Jefferson, DJ Heather, Disclosure, Armand Van Helden and Dennis Ferrer. Genre icon Carl Cox will also attend, along with Chicago-born Honey Dijon.

Sven Vath, a German techno pioneer, Dom Dolla, the current phenom and veteran Skepta are also included.
