Just recently, Ed Sheeran revealed that he will be releasing a live version of his upcoming album, which is called Autumn Variations. The live album has been recorded in the houses of various fans.
The announcement of this album comes as a surprise as no one had any idea that the Shape Of You hitmaker was secretly recording the songs that he was performing for fans in their living rooms.
He took to Instagram to post a clip of himself surprising a fan when he started playing the piano. In the caption of the video, he talked about how he has been going around surprising fans by performing for them.
In addition, he revealed that he had been secretly recording these performances of the new songs and that each track had been recorded in the living room of a different fan.
As per the announcement made by the singer, the live edition will be released in a couple of days, but the original album will be put out on the 29th of September.
The musician further discussed how he showed up at one of the fans’, Karin Conaway, house and knew that he would have a good time.
He recalled that the family had various cats, friendship bracelets and some fruit drinks for him. This was when he played the song.
Once he had performed, Ed requested the fan to give him a tour of her home and saw that she owned a piano.
When she asked him if he could play the instrument, he said that he did not know how to play any other song besides Wake Me Up by Plus, which is what he did, much to Karin’s glee.
When talking about the album and the inspiration behind it, the musician explained that in the fall of the previous year, he noticed how he and his friends were undergoing numerous changes.
However, once the heat of the summer after that settled, all the issues had either worked themselves out, calmed, fell apart, or simply imploded.
He also shared that during this difficult time, he decided to write songs and understand his feelings. Moreover, it allowed him to come to terms with the things going on around him.
The hitmaker further confessed that he listened to the problems being faced by his friends and, thus, decided to write those down, too.
According to Ed, some of the songs on the album are from his perspective, while the rest are from his friend’s.
The 32-year-old said that he has tried his best to capture the views and thoughts of his friends, mentioning that there were some highs of new friendships and love, along with lows of depression, confusion, loneliness, and heartbreak.
The musician revealed that his father and brother had once told him about a composer named Eglar, who came up with Enigma Variations.
Each one of the 14 variations on that album was related to the composer’s friends. Thus, Ed decided to do something like that and was inspired to make this new album.
