Britney Spears’ Conservatorship Comes To An End After 13 Years

In recent news, the conservatorship that had controlled the life of Britney Spears for the last 13 years, has now come to an end.

In the Los Angeles Superior Court, Judge Brenda Penny ruled that this legal arrangement that had been controlling the life and finances of the singer should be terminated right away. This decision is a pivotal moment for the star, who will now regain control of her personal affairs and her bank account. She is going to be able to make her own decisions for the first time since the year 2008.

Judge Penny stated that there was no longer any need for the conservatorship of the estate or the person of Britney Jean Spears.

This ruling from the Los Angeles Superior Court comes only months after the popstar made a public statement about the arrangement. The 39-year-old had talked about the conservatorship in detail at her hearing in the month of June. Back then, she had compared the arrangement to abuse and requested that it be terminated immediately. She had also contested having to undergo several mental evaluations before the termination.

Judge Penny finally granted the singer her wish, asserting that in her professional opinion, there was no need to give out a capacity declaration. She further pointed out that it had been a voluntary conservatorship on Britney’s part.

John Zabel, an accountant, was appointed to temporarily control the estate of the popstar back in September. This took place when Jamie Spears, Britney’s father, was suspended from his position of being her lead conservator. Zabel will continue to retain some of the powers he was granted earlier, as well as help settle a couple of ongoing financial issues that are related to the case. He will also assist in the execution of estate planning and facilitate the transfer of outside assets into a trust that Britney already owns.

During the star’s conservatorship battle, numerous people had been showing their support on social media by using #FreeBritney. They had also spoken out to the relevant authorities to bring about an end to the conservatorship battle that Britney had been fighting. After the announcement by Judge Penny, many of these campaigners showed up outside the courthouse to celebrate the end of the legal arrangement that had been ruling the singer’s life.

Sam Asghari, Britney’s finance, took to Instagram to write the word ‘Freedom’. He further added that history was made following the announcement by the judge and that his significant other is now finally free.

In other news, lawyer Travis Scott has insisted once again that the rapper was not aware of the crowd surge, at the time of his headline set last week at the Astroworld Festival.

The Sicko Mode hitmaker had been performing in Houston, Texas’s NRG Park on the 5th of October when the crowd suddenly surged. The result was multiple fatalities, and the death toll came to nine people. Scott has been criticized by many for not putting an end to the show when the crowd lost control. He has also been named a defendant in lawsuits filed by two injured attendants.
