B.J. Thomas Passes After Battle with Cancer

In recent news, B.J. Thomas, the award-winning singer, has passed away at the age of 78.

He took his last breath while at his home located in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, 29th May. He had been suffering from complications that came with him being diagnosed with lung cancer. The sad news was later confirmed through a post on his official Twitter handle.

Thomas had been fighting the lethal disease for a while now. The stage-four lung cancer had been especially hard on him.

The singer began his career in music back in the 1960s. He soon dropped his iconic song, Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, which went on to become one of his most famous hits.

The song is the reason that Thomas won an Oscar in the category of the Best Original Song in the year 1969, which was used in the movie ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’.

Robert Redford was one of the main characters in the movie, who later revealed that when the song had first been played in the movie, he had questioned whether it belonged in it or not.

In the year 2019, while giving an interview, Robert disclosed that when the film was released, he had been highly critical of the song. He added that he did not understand how the song fit, since there was no rain at all. According to him, it felt like a dumb idea but, he was proved wrong.

Ever since the song was originally released, it has been featured in a bunch of famous and hit Hollywood films, such as Spider-Man 2 and Forrest Gump.

Thomas also previously enjoyed success on charts with his songs Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong and Hooked on a Feeling.

The singer confirmed back in March that he was suffering from stage-four lung cancer and was being treated by the best doctors in Texas.

At the time, he released a statement in which he thanked his wife, Gloria, whom he said has been his rock for more than 30 years. He also expressed gratitude for his friends, family, and of course, fans.

He had gone on to add how blessed he is to have been granted the opportunity to record and then perform some beautiful songs in the country, gospel, and pop music. Thomas asserted that he was humbled to have shared wonderful songs, as well as memories, with millions across the globe.

At the end of the statement, he asked for prayers from everyone and expressed hope that his music will live on long after he is gone.
