FBI Investigating Elon Musk and Kanye West Twitter Hack

In recent news, an investigation has been launched by a couple of officials. These professionals belong to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in America. They are currently investigating the case of a Twitter hack where the privacy of some accounts was compromised. The accounts hacked belonged to some very prominent figures such as Elon Musk, Kanye West, and former president of the U.S., Barack Obama.

Along with West, Obama, and Musk, the accounts of multiple other famous personalities were hacked. All these channels were then used to post several messages requesting and urging people to send them funds in Bitcoin. The messages claimed that the currency received would then be doubled and transferred back to whomever supplied it. However, each of these well-known figures denied ever making that post or knowing anything related to it.

FBI officials soon spoke out in public stating that they had launched an investigation into the matter. They stated that they will see the incident through.

Moreover, the San Francisco office of the FBI, who are leading the investigation, issued a formal statement as well. They revealed bits of their investigation saying that they have figured out the sole purpose of the hack was to commit cryptocurrency fraud. They also went on to warn people about this scam. They stated that no one should transfer their money or cryptocurrency to any account, especially related to this particular incident. People were also told to be wary of such scams in the future and report any that may seem suspicious.

Of the accounts hacked, some belonged to well-known personalities in the U.S. and all over the world. Hackers also hijacked the accounts of Joe Biden, a U.S. Presidential candidate, along with Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft. Apple and Uber were also victimized whose accounts were used to funnel and gain approximately $120,000 in Bitcoin. Unfortunately, the scam turned out to be successful in the case of these two.

In response to this hack, Twitter also made a move. The verified accounts of these prominent figures were blocked along with the posts requesting the transfer of Bitcoin. They have also launched their own investigation into the breach. Executives also declared that they are currently looking into the logistics of this hack and taking steps to fix whatever security breach they may have.

The social media giant also claimed that they have identified the nature of the breach. It is Twitter’s belief that the people responsible for this hijacking coordinated to carry out a social engineering attack. In this process of hacking, they targeted a couple of employees working for Twitter who has easy access to key internal tools and systems.
