Halsey is proud of her brother’s efforts against racism

The 25-year-old singer has announced on Instagram that she is proud of Sevian, her younger brother. She praised his efforts in the anti-racism protests and also went on to insist that before the world could move forward, they need to interact with the black community first. Halsey said that they deserve a voice in everything and therefore, should have a say in possible routes taken for the future.

In her post, she added a picture of herself and her brother. She tagged him and said that she is proud of all that he is doing. She appreciated him for standing up for the movement and going out to protest every single day. The singer added that right now people should keep their family close because they have someone to rely on in these difficult times.

She went on to add that if someone is not black, has a black parent, is the parent to a black child, is married to a black person, or is in any interfamilial relationship with someone of color, this is the time to listen to them. She urged people to talk to the black people they know and offer them support and love. The hitmaker also encouraged people to be compassionate because they have no idea what traumas and negative experiences they may have had.

Understanding that not a lot of people express the day to day issues they face, Halsey also said that many hidden feelings and concealed memories are bound to come to light. The Black Lives Matter movement is overwhelming and empowering a lot of people to speak up. The singer declared that their stories and trauma should be received with empathy and grace. They should be promised change and a peaceful society.

On the other hand, Halsey was recently criticized for not owning up to her black side.

Recently, the popstar participated in the protests following the death of African-American, George Floyd. However, she received a lot of backlash for the language she uses when talking about the subject even though she is biracial.

In a post that has now been deleted, a Twitter user called her out. They said that she never owns up to her black side but, claims that she supports the movement. They told people to stop being ignorant and pay attention that fact. Furthermore, the post also said that she talks about giving black people a voice to speak but, never includes herself in that count.

In her response, the Without Me hitmaker clarified that she feels she is ‘white passing’ whenever she wants to claim her black side. Halsey explained that she wants to focus on helping people who feel the pain the most. She said her heart went out for her family for all the racism they have endured.

At the end she added that nobody is going to kill her based on her color therefore, she believes it would be a disservice to count herself as black too when she has never faced that kind of violence.
