Morningrise Reissued, Imported Edition by Opeth

This is the second studio album by Swedish band Opeth. The album was released on June 24 1996 in Europe and on June 24 1997 in the United States. The recording took place at Unisound studio in Orebro during March and April in 1996, the band produced by Dan Swano and it was the last album produced by him.

Morningrise described Opeth’s signature style, spreading the dynamic between the combination of death metal and black metal vocals and lighter progressive and acoustic elements of the guitar. The album featured the longest song ever recorded by Opeth “Black Rose Immortal” with a length of 20:10. The lyrics of the song “The night and the silent water” is about the grandfather of guitarist/vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt, who died shortly before recording of the album.

The album was well ranked by critics. Both guitarists worked well together, creating some great melodies by the guitar and lapsing into a very tasteful acoustic mood, and the listeners inspired by their great guitar riffs. Morningrise is a logical progression of the sound that Opeth had on the debut Orchid. The sound of the album is more refined in this reissued CD, the vocals are “killer” and the guitar is “warmer” the nice input of vocals increase the amazing atmosphere of the songs. However, the whole album is amazing.

The band was formed in 1989 in Stockholm. Lead guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Mikael Akerfeldt. Opeth has consistently incorporated classical, jazz, blues, and folk influences into its lengthy composition and powerful influences from death metal in their works. Many songs include strong dynamic shifts and acoustic guitar passages, and as well as demonic vocals. Opeth made their live appearances to support the albums by conducting their first world tour in 2001. The band released its debut album Orchid in 1995 and has released 13 studio albums, four live albums, four live DVD’s and two box sets.
