The Top Singles This Year

Drake, Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris are likely to have their tracks at the top of the list of this year’s singles. The final quarter of the year means that statistics can be revealed to see which records will finish the year 2018 as the biggest tracks.
Currently, God’s Plan by Drake is leading the chart. It has been at the top for nine-weeks. The song also happens to be the lead single from his album Scorpion. The single has managed to earn a total of 1.46 million through audio and video downloads and streaming. Another single by the Canadian, Nice For What is also amongst the top ten singles for the year with a total of 1.06 million to its name.
Right behind Drake’s chart-topper is One Kiss by Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris. The single earned a total of 1.39 million and spent around eight-weeks at the summit.
When talking about albums, the Greatest Showman has managed to remain the most successful by snagging 21 weeks at the top of the charts. The runway success has shifted a total of 1.2 million in all types of formats. The album has batted off challenges with major acts from Kanye West, Snow Patrol, Manic Street Preachers and James Bay during its time as the number one. 46% of the total sales of the album are due to CDs and vinyl sales whereas, streaming contributes to 34%. Moreover, 19% of the revenue earned by the album was through downloads.
George Ezra’s album, Staying At Tamara’s is right behind The Greatest Showman which initially took its position as Number 1 in April. The album has spent a total of 26 weeks in the Top 10. So far in this year, the best debut album was released by Anne Marie. Speak Your Mind by the Essex Singer was boosted by the track 2002.
Rudimental’s Dan Caplen and Jess Glynne collaborated with Macklemore for the single These Days that debuted at Number 1 for a week and now has combined sales of 1.25 million. So far, it is the third song to be one of the biggest in the year 2018. The song proved to be vital as it enabled Jess Glynne to break the record for the first British Female solo artist with the most hits that featured at Number 1. The current tally for Jess following the release of These Days is seven.
