In recent news, Olly Alexander has taken home the BRIT Billion Award for his popular song, Years & Years. He is the latest artist to have won this award as part of BPI.
The company, which is the representative of the best music companies and record labels across the globe, expressed its happiness at the singer taking home the award.
The award of BRIT Billion is a token to indicate the success and achievements of the song, Years & Years.
Such was its popularity that it managed to surpass the more than a billion career streams in the UK, which was calculated personally by the Official Charts Company.
Olly was presented with the award by Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud and Kimberley Walsh. They invited him to the Might Hoopla Festival and gave him the award backstage.
The pair later joined him on stage as well while he performed his headlining set.
Nicola and Kimberley also performed their two classic hit songs made when they were a part of Girl Aloud, namely Call The Shots and The Promise.
Olly has successfully launched no less than three albums up till now. Two of these works of art went on to climb the Official Albums Chart and took the number 1 position.
The albums featured several hit songs, such as 2022’s Night Call, Years & Years, Starstruck, Shine, King, If You’re Over Me, and Desire.
As of now, King is also garnering a lot of attention and has amassed more than 150 million streams up till now in the UK alone.
When presented with the award, the star revealed that he could not believe it when he found out that his song had surpassed more than a billion streams. He added how he was doubtful that it happened and thought it was just a dream.
Olly went on to thank his fans and supporters for allowing him to reach the level of success that he did and win the BRIT Billion award.
The BRIT Billion award was officially announced on the 4th of May, 2023. Olly was the first of the 13 artists who are going to be receiving this honor.
These stars include Coldplay, Whitney Houston, ABBA, and Mariah Carey. They have managed to pioneer the field of hip-hop and rap alongside Headie One and AJ Tracey.
There were several other pop artists who dominated the chart through and through with their singing and songwriting skills.
This list includes a series of popular stars, such as George Ezra, Rita Ora, RAYE, Lewis Capaldi, Sam Smith and Ellie Goulding.
The most recent songwriter and singer who was presented with this award was James Arthur. He was given the honor at The One Show on BBC in a live telecast.
The singer was presented his award personally by Roman Kemp and Alex Scott, which made his experience better, according to him.
This prestigious BRIT Billion award is reflective of the number of streams a song has recorded.
It also indicates how the landscape of the music industry has quickly changed across the globe in the last decade for fans and artists alike.
