In recent news, it has been revealed that Taylor Swift is going to be presented with the BRIT Awards Global Icon Award.
Once she receives this honor, the 31-year-old hitmaker will be known as the first woman ever to be given this gong. The ceremony has been scheduled to take place on Tuesday night, 11th of May, at the O2 arena in London. The Cardigan singer is being recognized for the contributions that she has made to the world through her music, as well as her impressive achievements and repertoire.
A statement released by Brits commended Swift on her unparalleled career and music, along with her influence which has resonated with people across the globe. It further added that the singer has used her platform to bring to light various issues on a global scale. Moreover, it lauded her efforts to promote acceptance and support for the LGBTQ community.
As per the Official Charts Company, to date, Taylor is one of the biggest selling artists in the UK. The Fearless hitmaker has had the honor of winning no less than 11 Grammy Awards and she had sold over 114 million albums of her songs. She has also been nominated at the Spectacle to win the International Female Solo Artist award. However, she will be facing stiff competition from the likes of Miley Cyrus, Cardi B, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish.
Moreover, Arlo Parks, Young T & Bugsey, Joey Corry, and Dua Lipa are all set for a hat-trick at the ceremony to be held this year for these particular awards.
Dua has also been nominated for the category of British Single with Mastercard for her hit song, Physical. She has been included in the list of singers competing for Mastercard Album for Future Nostalgia, her second LP. The artist was just recently nominated for the Female Solo Artist category as well.
Arlo, the 20-year-old singer has been shortlisted for the Breakthrough Artist prize, in which she will be competing against Lipa for the gong for Female Solo Artist, as well as the Mastercard Album. Her debut record called Collapsed in Sunbeams, as been chosen for the latter category.
Joel was previously a part of the popular reality TV show by the name Geordie Shore. He has been nominated for Male Solo Artist for his song Head and Heart. He collaborated on the hit with MNEK. He is also up for British Single and Breakthrough Artist.
On the same note, Young T & Bugsey are up for Breakthrough Artist and British single, as well. They will be competing against Little Mix, the 1975, Biff Clyro, and Bicep in the category for British Group.
