Taylor Swift’s Folklore Still at No.1 after Six Weeks

Inspiration for all the young music artists, Country-turned-Pop American sensation Taylor Swift just doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon. After setting the record for the first album by a female artist ever to be streamed more than 80 million times just on its opening day on Spotify, which is an online music streaming platform, breaking the Guinness World Record, Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” has just broken another record.

It has successfully managed to be the first album to maintain a position on the top spot of the Billboard 200 chart for six consecutive weeks, in four years. Previously the record belonged to Drake whose album named “2016” reached the milestone four years ago, in 2016.

Folklore is the 8th studio album by Taylor swift. Giving her fans a relief in these difficult, Taylor Swift wrote and recorded the entire album during the pandemic. Released on 24th July, the album has 16 songs on it. Unlike her past albums which were of Country and Pop genre, this time the singer has used a totally different approach, releasing songs ranging from electro-folk, indie-folk, and alternative folk to chamber pop. Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner are the co-producers of it.

Ever since its release, the album has broken several other records. On the first day of its release, more than 1.3 million copies were sold of the album. Besides Spotify, Folklore became the most streamed album within just 24 hours on Apple Music as well.

Additionally, folklore has sold 846,000 copies in the US, making the artist the first female singer to have seven albums which have all sold more than 500,000 copies in the opening week, in the US chart history.

Apart from this, folklore became the best-selling album of the year in just the first week of its sale.

According to Swift’s own label, Republic, which is a division of the giant Universal Music group, the album is about to successfully near two billion streams around the globe. This includes, of course, online downloads and several physical versions of the album.

The Guardian has reviewed the album to be having intriguing tunes and give it a 3 out of 5. While the Rolling Stone ranked it at 4.5 stars.

This is not something unprecedented and new for the artist as her previous seven albums have also achieved similar success throughout all these years. Swift is one of the rare artists who have won more than ten Grammy awards. She has been nominated 47 times in Grammy and is one of the only two women, alongside Adele, to have won Grammy’s Album of the year award twice.

Swift has also won the Billboard Woman of the Year award in 2014 and in 2019 she was honored with the Billboard Woman of the Decade award. Quite inspirational, isn’t it?
