A panel of judges was picked to name the
most powerful woman in music for the Woman’s Hour at BBC radio 4.
After careful consideration, the judges awarded the title to Beyonce.
The
judges inclusive of Jessica Duchen, the renowned classical musician,
Catherine Marks, the top producer and Kate Nash, the British Popstar
chose the Formation hitmaker over Taylor Swift who was the runner up,
and Adele who held fourth place on BBC radio’s Women in Music Power
List. The results were announced on 28th
of September 2018.
The
show posted a tweet announcing the winner and then appreciating the
singer for her BeyGood Foundation and the charity work that it does.
Furthermore, Beyonce was recognized for influencing the landscape of
pop music with her songs such as those from the album Lemonade,
released in 2016 that contained political meaning. This is not the
first time that the show has gushed about the Single Ladies hitmaker.
Back in 2016, she was fortunate enough to be named one of the seven
of the most influential and powerful women to have existed in the
past 70 years.
Taylor Swift too, was acknowledged for
making a difference by inspiring young women all over the world,
winning hearts by working for women empowerment. She was also praised
for standing strong in the legal battle against a radio DJ from the
U.S whom she had accused of sexually assaulting her. On emerging
victorious from her war in the courtroom, Taylor was appreciated for
her steadfastness.
Besides
this trio, Vanessa Reed head of U.K Performing Right Society for
Music made it to number three on the list. Following the announcement
of the result, she tweeted stating that it is an honor for her to
know that she was chosen right after Beyonce and Taylor Swift.
Other
women who secured positions on the list were Cardi B at number 14
along with SIA at number 15. Ellie Rowsell from Wolf Alice was right
behind the two, on number 16. Dua Lipa also managed to be one of the
Top 20 people selected for the list by the radio show.
The
list was released on Friday to ensure that it coincided with BBC
Music Day. In order to mark the special occasion, station
announcements for people commuting using the British rail were
recorded by Kylie Minogue. A rare and special contest, Bargain Hunt
was also held where several celebrities competed to sell TV antiques.
