Madonna has plans to open a soccer academy in Malawi after being inspired by her son David.
Four
of the pop star’s six children are adopted from Malawi which is the
reason why the African nation holds a special place in her heart. She
has done some extensive charity work in Malawi and on a recent trip
there; she revealed David’s idea to build a football academy in
Malawi.
The
singer is currently living in Lisbon, Portugal for her 12-year-old
son David to attend the youth academy of the famous Portuguese soccer
club Benfica. David has a dream of becoming a professional athlete
one day, and it was his passion for it that became the driving force
behind Madonna’s plans to build a soccer academy in the poverty
affected Malawi.
The
Like a Prayer hitmaker’s plans were embraced by the officials at
the national soccer association. They even offered land for the
construction of the academy.
Malawi
Football Association’s president Walter Nyamilandu revealed that
the association is very excited for this opportunity as it will
complement their efforts to establish football academies in the
country.
For
David, this is a dream come true. He is very eager and is hoping to
raise the profile of soccer Malawi and also wants to help the
national team reach the global stage.
Apart
from David, Madonna has adopted Mercy, who’s 12, and five-year-old
twins Stella and Esther. She is a biological mother to Lourdes, 21,
and Rocco, who turned 18 last week.
