‘Red Moon’ Helps Mamamoo to Their Best U.S. Sales Week

Korean-pop band Mamamoo recorded their best sales week ever, in the United States, as their latest album ‘Red Moon’ managed to sell a thousand copies during the week ending on the 19th of July and also debuting at No. 4 in the rankings of the Billboard’s World Albums Chart.
The famous quartet have now managed a spot in the World Albums Chart for the sixth time in their career. The previous five to feature on the chart are; ‘Pinky Funky’ which started the band’s run in 2015 and managed a high of No. 7 in the rankings, followed by ‘Melting’ and ‘Memory’ a year later in 2016, managing to peak at No. 8 and No. 12 respectively, their only set to top the chart, called ‘Purple’ last year, as well as ‘Yellow Flower’ which was in the rankings this year, managing a high of No. 7.
Meanwhile, on the Heatseekers Album Charts, which does not feature many Korean acts, the quartet managed to make an appearance for the first time, as they recorded their record sales week. The band starts at No. 25 in the rankings, while becoming only the third female K-pop act to be on the chart this year. The previous two to feature on the rankings this year are Twice and Red Velvet. However, it should be noted that, if not for their position among the top 100 of the Billboard 200, ‘Blackpink’ could have been on the Heatseekers Albums Chart. But as it happens, their album ‘Square Up’ did break into the chart-frame, which did not qualify them to be ranked on the Heatseekers chart.
Mamamoo in the beginning of their music careers, preferred to give their songs a funky pop style. However, a change in global trends and the success of their single ‘Starry Night’ from their last year’s album ‘Yellow Flower’, means that the group has now adopted a more Latin sound approach to their music. However, the intensity from their performances is the same, as the band provide a diverse range of music. For example, ‘Midnight Summer Dream’ has an energetic chorus, while ‘Sleep in the Car’ provides a hip-hop experience.
Additionally, the band’s single ‘Egotistic’ starts at No. 5 on the World Digital Song Sales Chart, helping the group record their fifth entry in the top 10 of the rankings. Overall, Mamamoo have eight entries on the chart, with ‘You’re the Best’ from 2016 recording their highest position in the rankings, peaking at No. 3 in March. Not only that, the band managed to record two weeks in the rankings of the Social 50 chart. The K-pop quartet were at No. 48 this week, as compared to No. 47 last week. Despite the decline, the band has been popular on various social media networks. Among female K-pop bands, they are the fourth most popular, fifth most popular female group in terms of activity, as well as the 15th most active K-pop band. The highest ranking K-pop group is BTS, which is also at the summit of the Social 50 chart.
