Selena Gomez declares support for George Floyd

Tragedy hit the state of Minnesota on Monday when a 46-year-old African-American, George Floyd was murdered on the streets. He became a victim of the increasing police brutality in the country when white police officers targeted him. He was pinned to the ground by one of the cops while he was unarmed. The police officer kneeled on his neck and cut off Floyd’s air supply. Though he fell unconscious right there, the African-American was declared dead at a nearby medical center.

News of the tragedy broke along with a video which disturbed and appalled numerous people. Various celebrities spoke out against police brutality and declared support for George Floyd and the protesters who had come out into the streets.

The 27-year-old singer and actress, Selena Gomez turned to social media to raise her voice against the social injustice. As protests continue in the cities of Minneapolis to gain justice for George Floyd, Gomez wrote that she was disheartened by what had happened. She stated that she had spent the last 24 hours trying to grasp the seriousness and despair of the situation.

She also went on to say that nothing anyone says or does can change what happened. However, the hitmaker did say that it was up to them, the people, to take action. In her words, too many black lives has been lost and taken. They too are people who deserve better and to be heard. Gomez urged people to not sit in silence and let this injustice continue. She ended her tweet with several hashtags such as #blacklivesmatter, #icantbreathe, and #justiceforgeorgefloyd.

Meanwhile, Cardi B has also taken to Twitter to offer her full support to those protesting for justice for George Floyd.  She stated that even though she is afraid of the ongoing violence, she realizes the seriousness of the situation and the need to fight against police brutality.

The star said that people are tired of not being able to do anything. The protesters according to her, are educated, adults who can act peaceful too. But, the current situation has forced their hand and they have had to resort to violent means to have their voice heard. She stressed on the need to stomp out the brutality of the police from the country if peace is to be restored to it.

Jamix Foxx took it upon herself to travel to Minneapolis and declare her support in favor of the protesters. The Oscar-winning star said that she wants the world to know that no one is afraid to fight against police brutality rampant in the country. She added that if it was violence that got them justice then they would pursue that road. She ended her post by saying that all those fighting in front were brave and have the support of thousands around the world.
