Taylor Swift to be Honored with Billboard’s Woman of the Decade Award

Billboard’s first-ever Woman of the Decade award will be presented to Taylor Swift later this year. The Billboard’s Women in Music event for this year will be held at the Hollywood Palladium this year on December 12th. On that day, the singer will be granted the honor and will be recognized as ‘one of the most accomplished musical artists over the course of 2010s’.

This announcement was made only a few hours after the singer was nominated for three Grammy Awards for Lover, her latest album. It rounds off a spectacular and quite successful decade for the singer. The star has released a total of five albums between 2010 and 2019, starting with 2010’s Speak, Red in 2012, 1989 in 2014, 2017’s Reputation and now Lover in 2019. Every single one of her album reached the number one position on the Billboard 200 chart.

Amongst the various other accolades that were racked up by the star included three stadium tours worldwide, three singles that topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and two Billboard Woman of the Year awards.

Last week, the Shake it Off star had made headlines when she claimed that she was blocked from performing her hits on Television. She named music moguls Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta, the former boss at her record label who sold her master’s to the executive. The singer said that this also included the American Music Awards, where she will be presented with the honor of Artist of the Decade. The bosses at the Big Machine Label Group had denied these allegations, but later gave the star permission publicly to use her songs.

The AMAs will be conducted on Sunday and Taylor will be presented with the Artist of the Decade award by Carole King. The Grammy Award-winning singer will present Swift with the award and disclosed that she was delighted to have the opportunity of doing so. King praised Taylor’s songwriting and said she had developed a personal and unique relationship with her audience. She went on to say that being a woman songwriter and going into the music industry at a young age, she understood how much struggle, perseverance and determination was needed to achieve such success.

Now that the Shake It Off star’s public feud with her record label is over, she will also perform at the event, which will be hosted by Ciara. The other acts that have been scheduled for the event include Paula Abdul, country duo Dan + Shay, Megan Thee Stallion and Kelsea Ballerini. The stars that will be giving a performance include Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Shania Twain and Toni Braxton.

The 2019 AMAs will be broadcasted live on 24th November from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
