Nice For What’ Replaced By ‘In My Feelings’ at No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100

The Billboard Hot 100 saw Drake replace himself at No. 1 in the rankings, as ‘Nice For What’ was knocked off its pedestal by ‘In My Feelings’ in chart dated the 21st of July. ‘In My Feelings’ climbed up four positions from No. 6 to land at the top of the rankings, as it was fueled by a viral dance challenge. The top spots in the Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales chart are also occupied by ‘In My Feelings’, with both of the songs belonging to the same recently released album called ‘Scorpion’. The album itself enjoys a second week at the top of the Billboard 200 album rankings.
Meanwhile, ‘I Like It’, which was at No. 1 two weeks ago, is now in the 2nd position in the Billboard Hot 100, while also topping the Radio Songs chart.
The Billboard Hot 100 started on the 4th of August back in 1958 and has had a total of 1,077 No. 1s, with ‘In My Feelings’ being the latest edition. The song has also reached the zenith of the Streaming Songs, as it climbed up from No. 2 to No. 1. According to Nielsen Music, the song gained 58 percent streams in the United States, to finish with a total of 71.7 million in the week ending July the 15th. In the Digital Song Sales chart of the same week, the song climbs 8 places from No. 9 to conclude the tracking week at No. 1, as it witnessed a 337 percent gain for a total of 89,000 download sales. The single was also the highest debut in the Radio Songs ranking, at No. 29, as it gained 239 percent audience impressions in the week ending the 15th of July, for a total of 36.5 million.
The single was also the best gainer in airplay, sales and streaming, which means it is the first song to occupy the No. 1 spot in all three since ‘God’s Plan’, which was also by Drake. ‘God’s Plan’ was No. 1 in all three rankings published on the 3rd of March, as its official video was released.
This sudden rise in the rankings of ‘In My Feelings’ has been largely due to the viral ‘In My Feelings Challenge’. Shiggy, an Instagram comedian, created The Shiggy dance which syncs with lyrics of Drake’s song and released a video of Drake doing the routine on the social platform on the 10th of July. A lot of celebrity and stars have since posted videos of themselves doing the challenge, with names such as Will Smith, Kevin Hart, Ciara with her husband Russell Wilson and Odell Beckham Jr. among them.
This is Drake’s third No. 1 to feature in the Billboard Hot 100 from his album ‘Scorpion’. The previous two songs were ‘Nice For What’, which ‘In My Feelings’ has displaced and ‘God’s Plan’ before that. Drake is also the first artist to manage such a feat since Justin Bieber, who managed it with his songs ‘What Do You Mean?’, ‘Sorry’ and ‘Love Yourself’ from his album ‘Purpose’.
