After becoming the only artist to have consecutive No. 1 debuts, on the Billboard 200 albums chart 12 months ago, Future now holds the record for having a streaming only album to post the highest tally on the chart. ‘Beastmode 2’ by the rapper is only available for streaming and now ranks at No. 3 in charts dated the 21st of July. The album was published by record label Freebandz/Epic Records on the 6th of July.
The rankings of
the Billboard 200 albums chart are calculating the most popular
albums in the United States during the course of a week, by measuring
the consumption based on different metrics in terms of equivalent
album units. These units contain the traditional album sales,
streaming equivalent albums (SEAs) and track equivalent albums
(TEAs).
‘Beastmode 2’
was at No. 3 in the rankings, as it had a total of 57,000 equivalent
album units in the week that ended on the 12th of July.
All of these 57,000 units were due to the streaming equivalent
albums. The album, which has nine tracks in total, has not been
offered for purchase and the individual tracks could not be bought
either from digital retailers. The album has launched with on-demand
audio streams that number at an astonishing 73.5 million.
The albums
position in the top 10 means it is the ninth time that Future has
managed to breach the chart frame. It is also the highest-charting
album that was released on streaming platforms only. The record was
previously held by ‘Coloring Book’ by Chance the Rapper, as the
album debuted and managed to peak at No. 8 on the charts released on
the 4th of July, back in 2016. The album managed a total
of 38,000 equivalent album units, as the number of streams totaled at
57.3 million. Chance the Rapper’s album was also the first
streaming-only to reach the top 10 of the rankings.
Future has managed to break into the top 10 of the Billboard 200 on
eight previous occasions: the first one was with ‘Pluto’ back in
May of 2012 that managed a highest of No. 8, ‘Honest’ which
peaked at No. 2 in May of 2014, ‘DS2’ topped the ranking in
August of 2015, as well as ‘What a Time To Be Alive’ in October
of 2015, ‘Evol’ in February of 2016, ‘Future’ in March of
2017 and ‘HNDRXX’ in the same month, with all of them managing to
peak at No. 1. The last album before ‘Beastmode 2’, to enter the
top 10 was ‘Super Slimy’ that managed a high of No. 2 in November
of 2017.
