New Album Announced by Garbage

On 10th March, Thursday, Garbage, i.e. Steve Marker, Butch Vig, Shirley Manson and Duke Erikson announced their sixth studio album titled Strange Little Birds. The album will be released on the band’s own label known as STUNVOLUME on June 10th this year. The name of the album was shared by the band recently via Twitter and they also released the artwork and track listing. The album is being produced by the band and it is a follow up to Not Your Kind of People that was released in 2012.

Initially, Garbage worked in Vig’s basement and then moved onto Los Angeles’s Red Razor Sounds. They used a variety of sources for this album that ranged from the music they had enjoyed growing up to the fan letters they had received. Shirley Manson, the band’s frontwoman said that the aim was to keep the music fresh and use their instincts musically and lyrically. Vig added that Strange Little Birds wasn’t very fussy and similar to other work by Garbage.

However, Strange Little Birds is going to come off as an echo of the band’s debut album released in 1995 in the opinion of some people, which includes Manson. She said that this album had more to do with the first record than any other and that was probably because they didn’t have anyone to answer to. This summer, Garbage will be headlining various shows and performing at numerous festivals across Europe. Some of their live dates have been announced whereas others will be coming soon.
